Babe is a larger than life San Jose city landmark! He has been working at Babe's & Lightning Muffler shop on the Alameda since the 60's. Babe also has a souped up 1950 Ford Pickup that hasn't been seen in a while since the passing of his owner Roland "Babe" Royer in 2011.
During San Jose Shark playoffs he's been seen swapping his muffler for a hockey stick! If you think you've seen him working elsewhere be sure to check out the other muffler men. His eldest brother was Paul Bunyan!
If your gas guzzling car fails smog certification and you end up needing a new muffler see Kurt at the shop. He'll fix you up!
With the advent of electric cars and no more tail pipes to fix I don't know how much longer Babe will still have his job.
Hopefully this St Leo neighborhood icon can retire in place like the Stephen's Sausage sign by the train station was.
